Why “tar heels.”

A name nobody fully explains and everybody understands. “tar heels.” is Chapel Hill in the spring, Dean Smith’s ghost in the rafters, and a shade of Carolina blue that stops conversations. Lowercase because class never had to raise its voice. A period because the tradition is already the argument.
