This is the first English translation of Princess Marthe Bibesco’s work of historical fiction regarding the life of Louise d’Esparbes, beautifully illustrated throughout and presented in the original unclipped dust wrapper. First English Edition, Scarce.In the publisher’s original cloth binding, in the unclipped dust wrapper. Illustrations include twelve illustrated plates. This is a fictionalised account of Louise d’Esparbes, Comtesse de Polastron. Originally written in French by Princess Marthe Bibesco, this work is described as a ‘historical biography told with all the accomplished charm of a gifted novelist’. Written by Princess Marthe Bibesco (1886-1973) was a Romanian-French writer, socialite, and political hostess. She spent her childhood at the nobleman Lahovary’s estates and started writing novels in 1908. Translated by Edward Marsh (1872-1953) was a British polymath, translator, and arts patron. He was the sponsor of the Georgian school of poets and was friends to the likes of Rupert Brooke and Siegfried Sassoon.
